Sofia Roubati & Friends in Concert
We invite you to a musical journey Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Plyfa in Votanikos, featuring saxophonist Sophia Roubati in an evening showcasing her original compositions.
Sophia has been involved in jazz as well as composing for film, dance, and theater, collaborating in New York, Dallas, London, and Lebanon. Recently, she worked with the National Youth Ballet and the English Heritage Institute of London, composing the score for the film Beyond the Plaques. The film has been recognized for its music at film festivals such as the Dallas Dance Film Festival (USA), Miami Light Screendance Festival (USA), Vesuvius International Film Awards (Italy), and London Lift-Off Film Festival (UK).
In the first part of the evening, Sophia’s London-based band Yiasena Band will perform, blending jazz with traditional sounds from Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other cultures with similar musical traditions.
In the second part, Sophia will present her new compositions influenced by classical music, jazz, and Greek traditional music. The Yiasena Band musicians will be joined by a 10-piece string ensemble and distinguished guests, including Angeliki Toubanaki on vocals and Alexandros Kapsokavadis on oud.
