MATMOS LIVE IN ATHENS

Alt text

Matmos Live in Athens

Matmos, one of the most influential acts in contemporary electronic music, will perform live in Athens.

For more than three decades, Matmos have been redefining the boundaries of electronic music, transforming unexpected sound sources—from everyday objects to field recordings—into intricate rhythmic and sonic structures.

Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt move between art, research, and live performance, exploring sound down to its finest detail, balancing precision, humor, and curiosity.

Listening to their work feels like observing through a microscope, revealing worlds that usually remain invisible.

Based in Baltimore, Matmos have developed a distinctive artistic identity grounded in the use of unconventional sound sources and their transformation into immediately accessible musical forms. Their work has been internationally recognized for its contribution to the evolution of sampling culture, and they have collaborated with artists such as Björk, Kronos Quartet, Terry Riley, and Anohni.

Their most recent album, Metallic Life Review (Thrill Jockey, 2025), is constructed entirely from metal sounds—copper, steel, aluminum—processed into a multilayered sonic landscape.

The choice of the industrial venue PLYFA acts as a natural extension of their practice, an environment where sound and material converge.

A rare appearance in Athens, as part of the Scenius Series.

ECHORROES: Echonexus — with three musicians and a participatory approach

ECHORROES: Echonexus — with three musicians and a participatory approach

We have built Echorroes so that anyone, of any age and language, can express themselves musically without prior training. At its core stands a facilitator; around her, Echonexus — an interactive musical instrument driven by AI algorithms that listens and responds.

What happens if, in the facilitator’s place, we put three virtuoso improvisers? How does a system designed for everyone — inclusive yet of genuine aesthetic substance — come face to face with musicians who have mastered the art of improvisation, and what new thing is born from that encounter?

Savina Yannatou guides us with her voice, calmly into the unexpected, without a map, defying the fear of the unknown.

Yorgos Stavridis, with his “percussion,” transforms every object into a musical instrument — doing by hand what the algorithm does digitally.

Panagiotis Sioras, with his bass clarinet — a centuries-old “tube” built for virtuosi — enters into dialogue with Echonexus, a young musical “tube” built to give voice to every child.

Three new cores within a vessel already shaped by the relationship between the facilitator, the algorithm, and the children — open a new space of interactions. Participation migrates inward, between the musicians and Echonexus, and at the same time outward, toward an audience invited to share the space and the sound with curious ears.

sister – blood
Live album showcase

sister (est. 2016) are presenting their new album, blood, which was released in february 2026 on double gatefold vinyl, as well as digitally, via same difference music. blood was painstakingly crafted somewhere between Athens and Tunis, capturing the band’s signature instru/mental sound—as it was first articulated on their debut album untrue (2018, underflow records) through compositions that are both harsher yet more refined

during their live performances, sister transforms into a purely primordial electrified entity that revels in playing loud, pursuing sonic bliss through intensity, repetition, and focus. the band will be performing all seven tracks from their sophomore album blood during their live debut along with a few select tracks from untrue, at the beautiful venue of PLYFA -building 7c-. the trio’s lineup (electric bass, drums, electric guitar) will be expanded to a quartet with the addition of friend and multi-instrumentalist solar panel (Glasgow, UK), who will accompany sister, handling synths and blips and textures, as well as acoustic and electronic percussion.

the evening will kick off with a set from one of the country’s most enigmatic musicians, known for his prolific output both domestically and abroad, in his first exclusive solo performance in many years, where he will be attempting something he has never done before: playing guitar (live & treated) in a short and cohesive set. sound engineering duties for the evening will be handled by giotis paraskevaidis (aux studios)

no earplugs will be provided at the venue. participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own.

the band’s albums and assorted merchandise will be available for purchase at the venue.

PARALLEL DREAMSCAPES

Parallel Dreamscapes
A Dialogue of Sound, Voice, and Image

A concert for voice, concert organ, electric guitar, and visuals is not a common encounter, and that is precisely where Parallel Dreamscapes finds its distinctive artistic voice, bringing together contemplative minimalism, reimagined baroque repertoire, and a responsive visual environment.

On 4 April 2026, we will host this interdisciplinary performance, featuring soprano Georgia Balabiniorganist Tea Kulašguitarist Mislav Režić, and visual artists Hristos Tolis and Marios Fournaris.

The first part of the evening presents works by Arvo Pärt, John Tavener, and Philip Glass for soprano and organ. Their music, often associated with the contemplative language of late twentieth-century minimalism, unfolds through spacious textures and meditative repetition, creating a reflective sonic landscape.

In the second part, Georgia Balabini and Mislav Režić turn to music by Henry Purcell, presented through new arrangements for voice and electric guitar as part of the project (C)halcyon Days. In this setting, baroque expression is not simply preserved but reframed, allowing historical material to resonate through a contemporary music language.

Throughout the performance, visual works by Hristos Tolis and Marios Fournaris shape an evolving visual layer that interacts with the music and deepens the sense of immersion.

Moving between stillness and intensity, early music and modern sonority, Parallel Dreamscapes offers an atmospheric meeting of sound and image, an invitation to experience familiar musical worlds in a new and unexpected light.

ALBUM PRESENTATION «3,14»

Panos Tsiros – “3.14” Album Presentation

Panos Tsiros will present his new album “3.14” live on Friday, March 20.

“3.14” is an album about the cycle of life — about joy and sorrow, about everything that feels like an ending which, when turned around, becomes a beginning. Like the number that gives the album its title, its songs move in a circular orbit of return, transformation, and continuity.

The lyrics are co-written with Mimi Tataki.

The evening of March 20 is an open invitation to share all the moments that shaped this album and to sing songs from the Greek discography that resonate in dialogue with “3.14.”

Guest artists on stage:
Iro
Vasilis Prodromou
Anastasia Chatziapostolidou

Biography

Panos Tsiros, originally from Lavrio, is a graduate of the Department of Music Technology and Acoustics Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University. He has studied guitar, piano, and voice.

He began writing songs in his teenage years, following a steady path of inner exploration and personal expression. Over many years of live performances on both major and intimate music stages, he has collaborated with numerous emerging and established artists, most recently with Iro and Anastasia Moutsatsou. He stood out with his appearance in the final of the young singer-songwriter competition at Taratsa tou Foivou Delivoria.

The album “3.14” marks his most mature artistic statement to date, distilling years of creation and personal evolution.

BUILDING PERFORMANCE PRACTICES VOL.2

Building Performance Practices vol.2
àktapha ensemble

On February 5 the final concert of the Building Performance Practices seminar by the àktapha ensemble will take place.

The concert features eight world premieres of new works, developed through an intensive period of shared creation, listening, and experimentation. Within the framework of the seminar, composers worked in close collaboration with the musicians of àktapha, approaching composition as a living performative practice and a collective process.

Under the artistic guidance of composer Ioannis Angelakis, Building Performance Practices functioned as a space of encounter, exchange, and trust, where ideas were tested and transformed through musical practice. The final concert marks the first public presentation of this process and invites the audience to take part in the experience of contemporary music creation.

The following works will be presented:
