The melodist of my Lady
Luna Cantat

January 22–23, 2025
February 1, 2 & 16, 2025

The theatrical group Luna Cantat presents the dramatic lyrical text “The melodist of my Lady”, a tribute to motherhood.

The work delves into the profound loneliness that emerges from the loss of one’s mother. The protagonist, a 35-year-old man, returns to his mother’s home immediately after her funeral. He confronts her absent presence through her personal belongings, her scent, his memories, and the realization that true adulthood begins with orphanhood.

These initial moments in his mother’s home become a hymn to his sacred woman and a ceremonial beginning of his own eternal mourning in the truest, most mature stage of life.

GYNAME
An improvisational performance by the Improvvomen group!

13 women, of different ages, personalities, and sometimes even ideas, live, survive, rejoice, and grieve in the same play. Sometimes as spectators and other times as protagonists.

Before the audience’s eyes, an improvisational performance unfolds without a script. Inspired by everyday moments and shaped by audience input, it tackles—with humor, or sometimes not—issues that affect us all, positively or negatively.

“How beautiful are you?”/ “Do you know how much your smile lifts my spirits?”/ “When will you get married?”/ “Still no kids yet?”/ “Have you gained weight?”

Their shared experiences and concerns unite them in a life that creates its own performances and representations. All so different, yet so similar!

Are groups a refuge? Is togetherness possible? Can society change by respecting differences? Can it really happen?

CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL MUSICIANS

Alt text

After the successful sold-out performance of chamber music, the show “Contemporary … Classical Musicians” continues for one more evening.

Two young musicians, Michalis Stefanakis on piano and Michalis Gennadis on violin, present works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Benjamin Godard, Robert Schumann, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The two Michalises remain devoted to classical music and dare to present chamber music at the PLYFA multipurpose space, addressing an audience with musical curiosity, even if it is not accustomed to classical sounds.

Believing that classical music is neither rigid nor distant, the two musicians present works from the Classical and Romantic periods, hoping their energy will touch the souls of their listeners.

Michalis Stefanakis

Michalis Stefanakis began piano and theory lessons in Heraklion, Crete, and received diplomas in harmony and piano from the Apollo Conservatory – Musical Society (Patricia Arena’s class). LA PETITE MORT

Alt text

La Petite Mort
by Nikos Kalyvas

Why do you dance? Why are you afraid to stop dancing?

The phrase “la petite mort” in French literally means “the little death” and is commonly used to describe orgasm, implying a moment of ultimate intensity and surrender, often seen as a form of “small death.”

How much more pain can you endure? Why do you keep dancing despite the fear and exhaustion?

Two dancers experience physical and mental fatigue at the peak of their careers. Though not immediate, the expiration date of their profession looms as a constant threat — a present absence. Their bodies, inevitably injured and worn out, become battlegrounds of conflict. It’s a race against time, desires, pleasure, decay, and acceptance. Each injury, both physical and emotional, foreshadows a “small death.” Every traumatic experience and temporary pause is a warning of what lies ahead. Every fall resembles death, yet every rise becomes an act of resistance against loss. Each “small death” can simultaneously be an explosion of life.

Are you still running? Are you laughing?

Bringing to the stage physical combinations, past relationships, and personal traumas — both humorous and intense — the dancers oscillate between questioning and reaffirming their ability to endure and rediscover joy repeatedly. They illuminate both the fragility and resilience of the human spirit and their profession.

But when will you stop?

The performance is supported financially by the Ministry of Culture.
