LIKE A WILD HORSE

Alt text

“Like a Wild Horse”

Like a Wild Horse draws inspiration from the personal experiences of its creator, Asimo Stavropoulou. Weaving a narrative through poems and dialogues, the work delves into the complexity of identity and the process of self-discovery.

In this context, it follows the journey of Joe, a person who does not fit into the gender binary. As Joe transforms and seeks to fully inhabit their body, they encounter—and reconnect with—people who are attached to previous versions of themself.

One of the central conflicts of the piece is the relationship with the father. Interspersed dreams, expressed through dance, reveal deeper fears and unconscious struggles.

While the protagonist attempts to redefine theirself, the narrative continues with the visit of a former partner, which triggers another confrontation with the past and the older fragments of their identity. As Joe changes, their relationships are redefined.

Dance, as in ancient tragedy, serves as a witness to the protagonist’s inner struggle. Hovering between reality and dream, the work illuminates the unconscious and the individual’s need to be set free, “like a wild horse.”

“The body, like a beast, wants to charge at the orange trees, naked, to speak a truth.”

SUPERSTAR
Griffón Dance Co.

“It’s better to burn out than to fade away.”
-Kurt Cobain

The new performance by Ioanna Portolou and  Griffón dance company explores the notion of identity, personal boundaries and the search for constant recognition in a voracious world.

With a backdrop of a ring-like stage space, the three dancers create an otherworldly and wild performance, exploring the transformation of the self according to Western standards of beauty and success.

Through an archive of images, movement materials and narratives, “Superstar” attempts to converse with the internal contradictions behind public glamour and becomes an existential question of how far we are willing to go.

TONAL SHIFTS

Tonal Shifts
Six embodied improvisations on gender fluidity

A physical exploration of gender fluidity through six improvisations that focus on tension, tone, direction, lift, and gravity as embodied tools of self-determination.
Tone and succession function as fundamental bodily patterns in the process of gender transition. They are not approached as abstract concepts, but as active, experiential events: they reveal the dynamic nature of the body and its ability to transform — somatomorphically, biochemically, socially; and also as a vessel of memory, desire, and political presence.

In Tonal Shifts, the body becomes both mirror and conduit. Through bodily tone, sequences are activated that either represent the bodies of the spectators or embody classical figures that have historically constructed gender. The body becomes an open field of discussion.

The performance creates a live soundscape, where body and voice are in constant dialogue. Resonance, accumulation, and vocal expansion act as vocal, organic shifts that reverberate through the body.
The “room of the voice” becomes a space where voice vibrates as a political trace: a presence that positions itself, clashes, and transforms.

Through the body, the voice, and the materiality of sound,
the performance becomes an act of reclamation;
a politics of tone, form, and fluidity.

Duration: 30 minutes
Suitable for: Ages 18 and over

LOVERS: A ROMANCE FOR NINE CHARACTERS

Lovers: A Romance for Nine Characters

Where does love go when it disappears? How long does forever last? What will I never forget about you, and how much sweeter does I love you sound at night?

An aspiring writer, locked inside his home, tries to answer these questions. But the creations of his imagination leap out from his pages, take on flesh and bone, and guide him to write the one story that hurts him — the story that will change him forever.

Will he manage to live his own story, or will he too become just a photo on some dusty piece of furniture?
A story about love and growing up — like the first ice cream of summer…

I will love you
Until the end of the world
And beyond…
And even
Beyond that.

“Arrivals” is part of the international festival Hydra Dance Days. At Plyfa we present a vibrant spectrum of the contemporary French dance scene, ranging from dance-theatre to abstract contemporary ballet.

Five companies bring five distinct visions of what it means to be  women and men in today’s world, exploring love, loneliness, friendship, sometimes with humor, and sometimes…without.

PETROS MALAMAS — PROFIL

Petros Malamas – Profil
Guest Appearance: Diamantis Diamantidis

On Saturday, June 28th, Petros Malamas and Profil invite us to a unique summer live show. With a common denominator of powerful and melodic riffs, penetrating lyrics, and shared influences from the Greek and international music scenes of the ’90s, 2000s, and 2010s, Petros Malamas and Profil promise us a rousing evening full of music and poetry.

Joining them for a guest appearance is the outstanding Diamantis Diamantidis.

Petros Malamas:
Petros Malamas presents songs-slash-instructions from his personal discography, theatrical pieces, Canadian tunes, and other favorites—his own and others’—but never mismatched, always with meaning and the aim to move and cultivate the soul of the music-loving audience.

With him:

A band-ish thing—nostalgic and futuristic. Come, definitely.

Profil:
Profil was formed back in 2000 by a group of school friends. They have a notable record of live performances in well-known venues in Athens and the provinces, such as: An Club, Kyttaro, Stavros tou Notou, Six Dogs, Temple, Ilion +, Underathens, and more.

Whether as a cover band or presenting their own songs, Profil has built a small but dynamic following. The group has also performed as a supporting act for well-known bands and artists from the Greek music scene, including: Ypogeia Revmata, Endelecheia, Magic de Spell, and Dimitris Mitsotakis. They’ve also collaborated with names and bands from the new Greek independent scene, such as: Vasilis Rallis, MC Yinka, Spyros Grammenos, Tsimento, Salto Mortale, Gourounia sto Diastima, Rockamora, etc.

Their discography includes two demo EPs (2008 and 2010), one promo LP (Good Morning Lucky Man – 2007), and their first full-length album Invisible Children, released in May 2015—distributed exclusively by hand and at their concerts.

Their music falls into the Greek-language independent rock genre, but their main influences stem from international guitar-based scenes and bands such as: Joy Division, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Stooges, Pearl Jam, The Sound, Radiohead, etc. They’re also influenced by Greek artists like: Trypes, Xylina Spathia, Diafana Krina, Endelecheia, Ypogeia Revmata, and others.

Currently, the band is preparing to release their second album (they’ve already released 5 singles via their website and YouTube channel) and are performing at venues in Athens and around Greece.

Guest Appearance: Diamantis Diamantidis – “44”
As we find ourselves already in mid-2025 and the folk rock orchestra Mitera Falaina Tyfli remains on extended hiatus, the mastermind and founding member Diamantis Diamantidis released his first solo album “44” in March, in the form of a comic book/CD (Nisos Editions / Plankton Music Productions, 2025, illustrated by Angeliki Salamaliki).

On the occasion of this release, he appears live with members of “Band 44”, along with good friends and collaborators, performing some of his new songs as well as selected covers from the Greek and international repertoire.

Doors open at 21:00.

DIMITRIS SAMOLIS LIVE

Actor and songwriter Dimitris Samolis takes the stage at Plyfa with his band and invites us to welcome summer with a unique celebration bathed in the light of music.

The show features ballads about “normal” love stories, unexpected cover songs, fortune cookies and kourkoubinia (a sweet Greek treat) are shared, firecrackers go off, old game consoles come down from the attic, and the audience makes requests for macho tsiftetelia (a type of Eastern Mediterranean dance music).

Joining him on stage:

DOMINO EFFECT

DOMINO EFFECT
An exhibition on political unrest and social media

The political domino that begins with the war in Ukraine and extends all the way to TikTok filters becomes a visual experience. Domino Effect, a new and widely discussed exhibition running from June 17 to 20 at the industrial venue Plyfa, sheds artistic light on the powerful connection between political instability and the dominant culture of social media. It stands out as one of the most relevant and provocative exhibitions of the year, curated by Community Club, known for pioneering actions at the intersection of art and society.

As we approach the first quarter of the 21st century, the exhibition visually traces the shift from hopes for a peaceful, democratic global order to the resurgence of authoritarianism, the rise of the far-right, and the widespread sense of fear and division.

At the same time, it turns its gaze to the power of social media to shape a digital “normality” filled with lifestyle aesthetics, influencers, and consumerist ideals, blurring the lines between public concern and digital distraction.

Ten contemporary Greek artists participate—Haroula Nikolaidou, Giorgos Chionis, Michail Parlamas, Myrto Voutyra (MYRTMIGI), Olga Souvermezoglou, SOTEUR, Spent1, Theano Yannezi, and Vangelis Choursoglou (Woozy)—each approaching the exhibition’s themes through paintings, sculptures, 3D objects, mixed media, and installations. Their works address critical issues of our time: the war in Ukraine, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, police violence, authoritarianism, political repression, the commodification of daily life, and the rise of radical nationalism.

Domino Effect also functions as a visual allegory: a single event—political, social, or technological—can trigger a chain reaction, a domino effect that is hard to stop. Within this dynamic, the exhibition holds up a mirror to our era, challenging visitors to observe, reflect, and question. What reality do we see, and what do we choose to ignore? And how can art, with honesty and courage, illuminate what often goes unnoticed?

Two special workshops will accompany the exhibition:

Thursday, June 19, at 19:00: Community Club hosts acclaimed artist Sotiris Fokeas (aka SOTEUR) for a unique doodling workshop. The well-known visual artist invites the public to meet him, learn about his technique, and take part in a collective creation under his guidance.

Friday, June 20, at 19:00: The now-established Tipsy Art Night will take place at the exhibition for a day of enjoyment and artistic expression. This popular painting workshop by Community Club, approved by TEDxAthens, is open to everyone, regardless of experience. It’s a perfect opportunity to relax, express, and connect through art.

Opening Night: Tuesday, June 17 at 19:00, with the artists present and an open discussion with the audience. The opening evening is supported by Katogi Averoff Winery, offering guests a fine selection of wines to enhance the artistic experience with aromas and flavors.

Operating Hours:

June 18, 16:00 – 22:00
June 19, 16:00 – 22:00
June 20, 16:00 – 22:00
